GREAT APES OF CENTRAL AFRICA

Together with researchers and rangers from our conservation partners we’ll explore the Mountains of the Moon, rift valley, lowland forest, savannah, coastal habitats and off-shore Islands of Central Africa.

This fascinating and often maligned region is not only home to many charismatic species such as African elephants, lion, hippo, and buffalo, it is also home to some of the most significant remaining populations of Africa's great Apes, namely the Eastern Mountain and Lowland Gorilla, the Bonobo, Western Gorilla and Chimpanzee.

The logistical complexities will all be taken care of staying where possible in the best local lodges, or on occasion at scientific research stations or custom camps, in specially augmented accommodation. With private fixed wing and helicopter aviation, movements between the Virunga Mountains and Lowland wetlands in eastern Congo, to the deep heart of the vast tropical forest, and then on to the lowlands, rivers and coastline of Gabon will be as smooth as it will feel adventurous.

Additional adventures en-route include options to camp on the rim of volcanic lava lakes, explore deep jungle by 4x4, float down dense tropical forests by pack raft, and explore mangroves by boat.
